DOKKUM – Two fifteen-year-old boys were arrested by the police in Dokkum at the end of last year. During a police check it was discovered that the duo had a sheath containing a knife.
On December 30, Mayor Johannes Kramer denied these two boys from the municipality of Leeuwarden a residence permit. They are not allowed to appear within the strongholds of Dokkum for a period of 12 weeks. The period started on December 30, 2023.
Suspicious behaviour
The duo was checked by the police on November 10, 2023 when they appeared suspicious in Dokkum. During the subsequent check it turned out that the boys had the sheath containing a knife. The suspects were arrested on the basis of Article 26, paragraph 5 of the Weapons and Ammunition Act.
Containment search
For further investigation, the suspects were detained in the detention complex in Leeuwarden. Here they were subjected to a containment search. Two balaclavas, a brass knuckle, a lifehammer and a mobile PIN device were found. The objects have been confiscated.
Viewpoint
As early as December 19, the suspects were informed that the mayor intended to impose a denial of residence on them. They could submit their views on this no later than December 26, 2023. Both suspects did not make use of this.
Kramer then decided to have an actual residence ban. The mayor states the following: “Given the history of these two boys, I do not see that there will be an improvement in their behavior in the short term. To protect public order and for the safety of the residents and visitors of Dokkum, I this punishment for the two boys.”
