Martine Tanghe to be Honored with Name Change for Jan Wauters Grand Prize

The name change will be a tribute to Tanghe, who died in July from cancer. The Jan Wauters Grand Prize was originally named after BRT sports reporter Jan Wauters, who died of cardiac arrest in 2010. It is an annual award for a Dutch-speaking media personality who excels in the use of the Dutch language and whose use of language demonstrates excellent language skills and great creativity. Tanghe herself received the award in 2020, just before her retirement.

The decision came at the request of the Wauters family and was approved by his widow. Sven de Leijer announced this in the Peace on Earth programme. He sat next to news anchor Wim De Vilder, who broke the news about the death of Martine Tanghe in Het Journaal.
