Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Foreign media is again highlighting RI. However, this time it is not the presidential election (pilpres) but rather Rohingya refugees.

In his latest article, Reuters reported how more than 140 Rohingya had arrived in North Sumatra (North Sumatra) over the weekend. This is the latest spike in arrivals of the Myanmar Muslim minority to Indonesia.

“The group, which mostly consisted of women and children, arrived by boat in the Deli Serdang area, North Sumatra, Saturday evening,” wrote Reuters which was also reported Channel News Asia (CNA)quoted Tuesday (2/1/2024).

“Their arrival came after the military said last week that its navy ships had expelled a boat carrying Rohingya in waters north of Sumatra, as the persecuted ethnic minority faces increasing hostility and rejection in Indonesia,” he added.

According to data from the UN refugee agency, UNCHR, more than 1,500 Rohingya have landed in Indonesia since November. The Rohingya themselves fled Myanmar because of the violence, where they were considered foreign immigrants from South Asia, denied citizenship and subjected to harassment.

Actually, the Rohingya are not only targeting Indonesia. Neighboring country Malaysia also does the same

A new refugee exodus emerged from November to April. At that time the sea conditions were calmer, making it possible for ships to sail.

Indonesia, the country with the largest Muslim majority population in the world, is not a signatory to the 1951 UN Convention on Refugees, but has a history of accepting refugees when they arrive,” the media wrote again.
