The journey of human life does not always match the expectations desired or planned. What has been prepared and planned is often different from the reality faced.
Our lives are very open to the dynamics of life. There are winding roads, smooth and steep roads, climbing and descending roads. Various types of roads sometimes make us have to fall and get up while walking on them. For some people, the reality of life dynamics like this is often less realized and even less acceptable. As a result, people feel frustrated, have difficulty accepting reality, and start to get angry and blame other people. Not infrequently, people even blame God himself.
Some of the dynamics of life bring tears and some bring smiles. In tears, there are prayers, sacrifices, and smiles of success that leave behind various colored traces.
Happiness and sadness are like two wheels of life that are on the left and right, side by side. The two look harmonious and always go hand in hand. Human life is also like a spinning wheel, sometimes there are parts that have to be at the top, but sometimes they have to be at the bottom. If necessary, you have to face mud and dirt. When you are at the top, of course you don’t need to feel the pressure of a heavy vehicle or experience dirt and smells. When you are at the bottom, not infrequently, the feeling of being “under” for too long, the wailing and despair in finding a solution to life’s problems feels very heavy. There is only one hope, namely that it will immediately move upwards.
Learning from a Story
Hope for something seems to require one thing, namely not giving up. I remember a story about two blind people who lived a difficult and suffering life. Both of them leave follow a famous healer who was known to be kind while exclaimed. Feeling sorry and seeing the sincerity of the two blind men, the healer healed them.
Reflection
It’s hard to imagine seeing two blind people guiding each other in the same conditions. However, this story gives its own message about the need to try. The two blind men showed effort. I call it ‘active’, namely moving the heart and steps to follow the healer. The efforts made by the two blind men were not easy because they required struggle. They did not remain silent, did not sit on the side of the road, and did not wait for people’s mercy.
I tried to understand the message in the blind man’s story. The action of ‘following’ seems to imply a message to move actively. The act of ‘crying out’ seems to describe limitations, dependency, and human needs. Indeed, in dealing with the dynamics of life, these two words seem difficult to distinguish, namely give up and Surrender.
Surrender is passive, without effort, and we lose. The future is seen only as failure and darkness. Like a fish in a glass that can only spin around. When giving up, humans indirectly present themselves as the only ones who do something. He relies on his own strength and is less aware of his inherent limitations. As a result, he does not feel dependent and in need of God.
Surrender is active, continues to try, and sees the future as a bright point that can be achieved, even though currently, that light still seems dim. Man surrenders because he believes in his faith. Faith gives him the strength of grace to believe that there is a power that exceeds his strength and the power of the frightening world. Believers believe that power comes from Him, the Greatest.***(ks)
