In a New Year’s opinion poll conducted by Chosun Ilbo and TV Chosun at the request of K-Stat Research, President Yoon Seok-yeol’s approval rating was found to be in the 30% range. 36% of respondents said that President Yoon is ‘doing well’ in running state affairs, 59% said that he is ‘doing poorly’, and 5% did not know or did not respond.

President Yoon’s approval rating by age was 23% in his 20s, 26% in his 30s, 22% in his 40s, 33% in his 50s, 47% in his 60s, and 68% in his 70s and older. By region, Daegu and Gyeongbuk had the highest rate at 65%, followed by Busan, Ulsan and Gyeongnam at 42%, and Daejeon and Chungcheong at 39%. In the metropolitan area, it was 37% in Seoul, 30% in Incheon and Gyeonggi, 35% in Gangwon and Jeju, and 12% in Gwangju and Honam. By age group, only those in their 70s or older had positive evaluations (68%), which was higher than negative evaluations (27%). On the other hand, the positive evaluation was in the 20% range for those in their 20s to 40s, 33% for those in their 50s, and 47% for those in their 60s, which did not exceed the majority. Among respondents who voted for President Yoon in the 20th presidential election, 72% had a positive evaluation of President Yoon, and 26% had a negative evaluation.
Compared to the 2023 New Year’s opinion poll by Chosun Ilbo and K-Stat Research, President Yoon’s approval rating fell by 4 percentage points from 40%, and his negative evaluation rose by 7 percentage points from 52% to 59%. By respondent ideological orientation, the decline was largest among the moderate class (33 → 27%). There was also a decline in the conservative class (70 → 65%) and the progressive class (18 → 13%).
In other New Year opinion polls, President Yoon’s approval rating was mostly in the 30% range. In a December 28-29 survey by JoongAng Ilbo and Gallup Korea, 37% had a positive evaluation of President Yoon’s job performance, and 60% had a negative evaluation. In a December 26-27 survey conducted by Hankook Ilbo and Hankook Research, 35% had a positive evaluation and 58% had a negative evaluation. In a survey conducted by Dong-A Ilbo and Research & Research in the metropolitan area from December 26 to 28, the positive evaluation was found to be 35.8% in Seoul, 31.2% in Gyeonggi, and 37.2% in Incheon.
In a survey conducted by Kyunghyang Shinmun and Embrain Public on December 29th and 30th, the positive evaluation was found to be 29%. 49% gave a negative evaluation, 18% said ‘neither one’, and 4% did not know or did not respond.
