Obesity is not an almost pandemic phenomenon that you see around you every day. Children, adults or elderly people struggle with extra pounds that affect not only their self-esteem but also their health. A report on this phenomenon published in the USA in 2022 shows that 4 out of 10 American adults have serious problems with their body weight.
The pounds pile on not only because you eat a lot, but also because, in recent years, most foods contain hidden sugars and fats. Basically, the food industry is partly to blame. Everywhere you can find cheap products that are sold in large quantities. They may be cheap, but they contain a lot of ingredients that bring you a lot of unwanted pounds.

If you consume unhealthy products from time to time it is not such a big problem. When this becomes a habit, problems arise. Researchers have made a list of products that you can find everywhere, but which are not good for you at all. They are very processed, but at the same time delicious.
They are not filling because they have no fiber or protein, but they have an impressive caloric intake. The list of products you should avoid includes bottled drinks, cold meats, potato snacks, ice cream and doughnuts.
A study of 10,000 adults published in JAMA Neurology shows that those who get 20% or more of their daily calories from processed foods have a very high risk of cognitive decline at a faster rate than those who eat a healthy diet.
Processed meat
If you like processed meat dishes, you should think twice before putting them in the basket. A study published in the specialized journal BMC Research Notes linked the consumption of these types of foods to fat around the abdomen and obesity.
Those who said they eat processed meat daily have a higher risk of having a body mass index than those who avoid it.
Instead you can buy fresh meat to cook at home in a healthy way. But you shouldn’t add too much salt or fat.
French fries
An analysis published in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that there is a link between eating potato chips and gaining weight.
More, another research from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that those who eat French fries have a higher risk of diabetes, premature death than those who don’t. French fries and potato chips contain a lot of calories, but also fat and carbohydrates.
Doughnuts
You might think that a donut can’t hurt you that much, but the truth is different. These desserts, which are otherwise delicious, contain far too much sugar and calories. The fact that they are fried makes them even more dangerous for health.
The even worse part is that sometimes you eat them for breakfast and this makes your appetite even bigger because the hunger hormones are activated. A coffee and a donut for breakfast will also make you want to eat more carbs throughout the day.
Choose for breakfast foods rich in quality proteins that are filling, help preserve muscle mass and limit belly fat.
Ice cream
There are studies that show that when you eat ice cream, certain pleasure centers are activated in the brain. This makes it one of the most consumed desserts. This will make you consume even more, which is not the best for your figure. Ice cream normally contains large amounts of fat and sugar.
Bottled soft drinks
Most bottled soft drinks are high in sugar. Energizers also fall into the same category.
A study published in the journal Nature Reviews Endocrinology links the consumption of these products to type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and certain types of cancer. In the US the main source of sugar consumption is soft drinks.
Besides an impressive caloric intake and a large amount of sugar, these drinks have no benefit for your body. They don’t hydrate you, they don’t have vitamins or minerals. Practically speaking, if you drink a glass of juice every day you will gain 500g every year. It may not seem like much, but you usually don’t limit yourself to one serving.
