This New Year’s holiday for most bars and restaurants, establishments that sell alcohol whose installation is regulated. The map drawn by the prefecture has just been discussed again in Nantes, for the first time in 10 years.
The file was on the table of the prefect of Loire-Atlantique before the summer, because the opening of a bar selling strong alcohol is highly regulated.
In Nantes, this map has not changed since 2013, even though the city has changed a lot. The west of the island of Nantes has just entered this perimeter, with more restrictive regulations. The idea here is to perpetuate existing bars.

On the other hand, the State and the city, consulted, would like to encourage the installation of cafes on three main roads in the center of Nantes. Places to be revitalized, such as Allée Duguay-Trouin, opposite Place du Commerce.
“There is no neighborhood life without these shops. Shops are part of the animation of a private and public space and it starts with cafes, it also continues with restaurants and boutiques, explains Gildas Salaün, deputy mayor of Nantes and delegate for commerce and the city at night, That’s all we want. Obviously, we simply want to highlight these new sectors which can be precisely integrated and energized by commercial activity.”

Bertrand knows this neighborhood well. It has been installed opposite the Place du Commerce on Feydeau Island for more than 20 years. He knows that the city has invested 30 million euros to transform this esplanade.
For him, traders in the center still remain cautious. They remember certain violent demonstrations in Nantes.
“We need something other than free premises and a change in regulations to bring businesses back to the city center. Be careful, banks today no longer lend on, one, as easily as before, since there are had many failures and many liquidations, and two, on rates which are very different”.
Today, I think that the concern of existing operators is to sustain their establishments before investing elsewhere.

One of the paradoxes today is that with this new plan, the prefecture wishes, without really saying it, to attract bars to the center of Nantes to repel certain small traffics and ultimately bring tranquility to the area. public space.
