French President Macron Announces Affordable Electric Car Leasing Program for Low-Income Households

At the end of October, French President Emmanuel Macron announced a special program that will allow low-income households to receive affordable electric car leasing. The goal of the program is to reduce the monthly lease payment to 100 euros, but car manufacturers have managed to reduce this amount even further.

The program includes smaller electric cars produced in France and Europe. For example, the Renault Twingo E-Tech will be offered for a monthly fee of 40 euros, which includes car maintenance, support and even charging for the first six months. Fiat 500e will cost 89 euros per month, Peugeot E-208 – 99 euros, Opel Corsa-e – 94 euros and Citroën ë-C3 – a mere 54 euros per month.

French citizens with an annual income of less than 15,400 euros and who drive more than 8,000 km per year (and live at least 15 km from work) can qualify for this support program. As part of the program, these people will receive a 3-year leasing contract with no down payment and the option to buy the car at the end of the contract. The program also provides insurance in the event of termination of contract, death, disability or inability to work.
