President Jokowi Visits Pon Market Surakarta for New Year’s Eve 2024 Celebration

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) visited Pon Market, Surakarta, Central Java, last night. Jokowi appeared to be enthusiastically welcomed by residents celebrating New Year at the market.

Seen on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel, Monday (1/1/2024), Jokowi toured Pon Market on New Year’s Eve 2024 on Sunday (31/12/2023). People who had been waiting for Jokowi’s arrival were seen lining the streets near the market.

“Mr Jokowi, Mr Jokowi,” shouted the residents.

Jokowi seemed to be responding to residents one by one who wanted to take selfies with him. One resident named Nafiah admitted that he did not expect to meet Jokowi.

“My son wants to (celebrate) New Year and he’s here to see fireworks. Oh no suspect If you meet Pak Jokowi, you can ask for a photo. Oh God, I’m nervous,” he said.

Not only Nafiah, another resident named Wani also admitted that he was surprised to meet Jokowi. Wani admitted that he was amazed by Jokowi’s figure.

“Very happy, isn’t it? guess, recently, recently, I’m amazed, really happy. (The president) is like an angel,” he said.

Apart from greeting residents, Jokowi approached the Night Market MSME booth (night market) Ngarsopuro, one of the stalls selling Speku sponge cake. Jokowi also bought the cake,

“Is this cake homemade?” Jokowi asked the trader.

“Yes, sir,” answered Sri, the sponge cake seller.

Not only that, Jokowi also approached the stall of a trader named Sasongko who was selling light snacks, such as egg rolls, sausages and corndog. Sasongko admitted that he was happy because his merchandise was bought by the president.

“Earlier (the President) bought it corndog, with Singaporean brains. This (corndog) five, the same (brains) five. Very happy, thank God. Thank you Mr Jokowi,” he said.

It didn’t stop there, Jokowi also apparently approached the stand of the ginger seller, Uni. Uni felt proud because he could meet and have his merchandise bought by the president.

“Yes, (the President) bought the ginger. I’m happy, this is the first time I can chat face to face with Mr Jokowi,” he said proudly.

After walking around, Jokowi returned to his residence. Residents also enjoyed the beautiful fireworks display in the city of Surakarta.
