German police have arrested three more people for allegedly preparing a terror attack on the Cathedral in Cologne. Four others were previously arrested for the terror plans. They are free again.
The three new suspects were arrested in Duisburg, Herne and Nörvenich, a few dozen kilometers from the Dutch border. The Minister of the Interior of the border state of North Rhine-Westphalia calls the action a success.
According to Cologne police chief Johannes Hermanns, Islamists were planning to attack the Cathedral with a car.
The suspects are said to be part of a larger network. This network was also active in other European countries. A thirty-year-old Tajik man is said to be the center of that network. He was arrested on Christmas Eve. Authorities first learned of the plans around that time, police say.
