In the case of the regions, the official added that there is a higher incidence of COVID-19 infections in the northern part of the national territory where: Piura, Lambayeque and La Libertad are located.

While in the south of the country, the regions of Arequipa, Puno and Moquegua appear. “In the occupancy of the ICU beds, this week, there are between two to three people, but they are discharged. Hospitalizations are also down. “We are not facing a pandemic wave, but we cannot let our guard down,” he stressed.

In that sense, the Director of Immunizations of the Minsa insisted on the application of the vaccine against COVID-19. “We have to learn to live with this virus and it has become an endemic disease and that is why we must get vaccinated, especially vulnerable people such as older adults and those with comorbidities.”

During 2023, more than 3,100,000 doses of bivalent vaccines were administered, of which more than 1,000,000 were given to people over 60 years of age.

“The gap among older adults is close to one and a half million who have not yet received bivalent,” said the Minsa official. She said that they seek to meet this figure by the first quarter of 2024.

Bivalent vaccine: how often do I apply it?

The Minsa reminds that the bivalent vaccine is the only one that is being applied to avoid serious complications due to COVID-19. To receive this dose, it is not necessary for the person to have previous monovalent vaccines. You just have to go to the nearest vaccination point with your identity document.

According to Technical Health Standard 208 on vaccination against COVID-19, people from 6 months of age can receive the bivalent vaccine.

Those under 60 years of age receive only one dose, while older adults and people with some comorbidity (oncology patients, HIV patients, diabetics, hypertensive patients, people with disabilities, etc.) require two boosters with an interval of 4 months.
