SDamage to the forest and blocked roads cause a lot of work.
Storms, rain and snow also took their toll on the Kleinzell community around Christmas. The storm “Zoltan” caused damage throughout the Lilienfeld district (NÖN reported).
“There were broken tops of spruce trees throughout our entire forest. Mainly at an altitude between 600 and 800 meters,” reports Mayor Reinhard Hagen. These must now be removed quickly to avoid consequential damage. “Spruce tops are the best food for beetles such as book printers and etchers in spring, which is why they have to be removed in winter,” he explains.
In addition to the numerous broken treetops, the soggy ground and the storm also caused some trees to be uprooted. Beech, ash and pine trees fell victim to the storm. In some cases, a lot of trees ended up on the street. “The streets are now accessible by car again, but the clean-up work continues,” informs Hagen. However, there are currently no precise estimates of the extent of the damage. The foresters are still in the process of discovering all the damage. The damage will be considerable, says Hagen, “but it won’t be a catastrophe.”
