Indian Navy Heightens Security in Arabian Sea Following Attacks on Cargo Ships

New Delhi: The Indian Navy has tightened security in the central and northern Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden in the wake of attacks on cargo ships passing through international shipping lanes. Naval task groups have been deployed to strengthen maritime security and assist ships.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), maritime patrol aircraft and long-range maritime aircraft have also been deployed, the Navy said. The Army also said that it is working closely with the Coast Guard to understand security issues in the Indian Ocean.

In the last few weeks, the navy has tightened security in the face of several attacks on cargo ships passing through the international shipping lanes. The action was taken in view of the attacks on MV Roove 700 nautical miles from the Indian coast and on MV Chem Pluto in the Arabian Sea.
