18-year-old Russian military man Stas Silchenkov, who signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense, died in the war in Ukraine, the BBC Russian Service reported.
This is the first known death of a military man born in 2005, the publication notes. The lists of dead Russian military personnel maintained by BBC and Mediazona journalists along with a team of volunteers previously did not include soldiers born this year.
It is known about Stas Silchenkov that he was born on May 20, 2005; this year he graduated from Smolensk school No. 24.
“On December 16, we said goodbye to my son Stas, who signed a contract at the age of 18. Stas died on November 17 in the village of Sinkovka, Kharkov region, Kupyansky district. The death was reported only on December 12. She buried her son on December 16 in the village of Nizhnyaya Gedeonovka,” said the mother of the deceased, Irina Silchenkova, in the “Overheard Smolensk” public page.
After school, Silchenkov entered the Smolensk Regional Technological Academy, the mother of a military man told the BBC. “I didn’t finish, but took the documents. On September 5 he signed a contract, and on November 17 he died on the front line,” she said.
The State Duma in April 2023 as part of a package of laws on electronic subpoenas accepted an amendment allowing adult school graduates to sign an agreement on contract service in the army. The bill was passed almost unanimously: 394 deputies supported it, one abstained.
