It is yet another initiative by Venice to curb mass tourism: from June, loudspeakers and groups of more than 25 tourists will be banned in the Italian city.

Venice is one of the most visited cities in Europe and has been experiencing problems for years due to the enormous influx of tourists. Mass tourism, for example, affects the climate and the quality of life in the city. In August, UNESCO therefore recommended putting Venice on the list of world heritage in danger.

From June, groups of more than 25 tourists will be banned in an effort to better manage large group tours and tours in Venice’s historic center, an official in charge of security in the city said. BBC. Loudspeakers are no longer allowed because, according to the city council, they cause confusion and nuisance.

At the end of November it was announced that tourists will soon have to pay an entrance ticket of 5 euros to Venice. For the time being, this is a trial: tourists must pay every day between April 26 and May 5, then only on Saturdays and Sundays. A special website will be launched in January where tourists can register for a visit.
