This year, for the first time in thirty years, Sarah of York was invited to attend the Christmas service and spend the holidays at Sandringham with the royal family.
We decided to remember how Sarah used to visit Sandringham when she was still a member of the royal family because she was married to the middle son of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Andrew.
This photo was taken in 1990. Sarah in a red coat and fur hat, next to her is Prince Andrew in a suit and red tie, and next to him is Princess Diana in a dark blue striped suit and wide-brimmed hat. Diana holds the hand of her youngest son, Prince Harry.
And this is 1991, Sarah and Prince Andrew are walking behind Princess Diana and Charles. Diana is holding Harry’s hand again. This is the same royal walk that family members take every year on their way from home to the Church of St. Mary Magdalene.
In those years, Sarah and Diana were good friends and were often photographed together. Including during the winter holidays at Sandringham. After her divorce from Prince Andrew in 1996, Sarah was no longer a member of the royal family and was not invited to holiday at Sandringham. But this year, King Charles III made changes to the rules and invited the Duchess of York. By the way, if you didn’t know, after the divorce, Sarah and Prince Andrew continue to live together in the Royal Lodge cottage in Windsor.
