US Hospitals Scramble to Resume Mask Usage as Covid Patients Increase

Washington: Face coverings, commonly called masks, are back in US hospitals. Hospital chains began scrambling to resume using masks that disappeared in May, when the Biden administration officially declared the end of the Covid-19 pandemic as the JN.1 variant spread across the country.

Hospitals in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, and Washington states prescribe certain medical conditions.

In the week ending December 16, the number of Covid patients arriving at hospitals increased by 10.4%, according to the CDC. The death toll increased by 3.4% during this period.

Masks are no longer mandatory in any state. But since the pandemic hit in early 2020, the CDC and doctors have been recommending it. Especially in hospitals.

Mass. General Brigham, the largest health care group in Massachusetts, issued a directive this week to require health workers to wear masks starting January 2. Especially for those who care for patients in the hospital. This order will remain in effect until the spread of the disease is contained.

The hospital will provide masks to visitors and patients. When the number of people arriving with respiratory diseases decreases, it will be checked whether the mask can be avoided.

At MedStar National Rehab Hospital in Washington, D.C., employees are required to wear masks during work hours, according to The Hill.

Masks also arrived at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals.

In New York, NYC Health + Plus Hospitals has implemented a mask rule across all facilities. She pointed out that respiratory diseases, including Covid-19, pose a threat to the residents of New York.

California hospitals also asked patients, visitors and staff to wear masks.
