Jakarta –
PT Industri Kereta Api (Persero) or INKA plans to start producing 16 Electric Rail Trains (KRL) in 2024. The train series was an order from PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI).
INKA Main Director, Eko Purwanto, said that his party is currently in the process of making a prototype, to be tested in April-May 2024.
“We will test the prototype. And now we have started the production process for the lower body frame,” said Eko in Jakarta, Saturday (30/12/2023).
INKA itself targets that in the first quarter of 2025 these trains can begin to be delivered to KCI in stages. After the first delivery, there will be deliveries every two months.
“The KRL delivery will be in 16 new trainsets. We will start delivering the first trainset in the first quarter of 2025. After that, until 2025 we will deliver every 2 months,” he said.
Parallel to the production of new trains, his party is also carrying out a retrofit process, aka rejuvenation of old KRLs. In total there are around 19 KRLs that will be repaired.
“We are also working on the retrofit later. We will start preparing the retrofit of 19 trainsets at INKA Banyuwangi next year, and some will start in Madiun,” he explained.
In 2023, INKA itself will receive many train orders from PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI. Apart from procuring 16 new KRL trainsets, INKA also received an order for 612 New Generation Stainless Steel trains for the 2023-2026 Replacement program.
The 612 trains or carriages consist of executive, economy and luxury trains. Eko said that overall the total funds raised by KAI for the 612 units reached IDR 5.4 trillion.
“If this 1 unit is luxury, because the materials are really all new, we paid IDR 14 billion for one unit yesterday,” he concluded.
As additional information, the condition of the KRL transportation mode has received public attention because it is considered to often exceed its capacity, especially at peak hours. In addition, the increasing number of old KRL trains will have to be retired in the near future.
Therefore, increasing the number of KRL train sets continues to be encouraged. In notes detikcom, the plan to procure KAI facilities from 2023 to 2027 will be carried out in 3 ways. First, 19 old series will be updated or retrofitted by INKA. Second, purchasing 3 new trainsets from abroad, reportedly from Japan. Finally, the procurement of 24 new trains was purchased new from INKA.
PT KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo stated that next year his company would receive an injection of state capital amounting to IDR 2 trillion. Later, the additional state capital, aka PMN, will be used for the procurement of Jabodetabek KRL facilities.
“For KRL? Later next year. Yes (it will definitely be disbursed). There are 3 people who want to buy new KRL,” said Didiek when met at Balai Yasa Manggarai, South Jakarta, Thursday (28/12/2023).
According to Didiek, the KRL train procurement will be in collaboration with INKA and also the Japanese side. “This is still in the context of INKA and Japan,” he said.
