MEXICO CITY, December 30 (EL UNIVERSAL).- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador inaugurated the Megapharmacy of Wellbeing, which, he boasted, “will be the largest pharmacy in the world.” He assured that the above is one more step for Mexico to make the dream of universal access to health a reality.
Prior to the start of the opening ceremony, the head of the federal Executive toured the facilities of the megapharmacy, located in the municipality of Huehuetoca, State of Mexico, where shelves and boxes with medicines can be seen.
“The objective is for all medicines to be distributed to the most remote towns in Mexico, so that no one lacks medicine. That is the ideal that today we are beginning to turn into reality, that dream of the right to health,” explained the federal President. .
López Obrador affirmed that in the past in Mexico health was for a few, and assured that these problems had nothing to do with the budget, “they fundamentally had to do with corruption.
“There is a budget, the problem was corruption in everything, in the construction of works, roads, education, health, and this is the case. About 200 billion pesos were spent on the purchase of medicines and equipment, but due to corruption, that resource did not yield, a few kept it… There were 10 companies in charge of the sale and distribution of medicines… now with the same budget that was spent, now it is enough to give medicines free to all the people of Mexico,” he asserted.
The President highlighted that the Federation already has all the medications for this year and next.
“There will be no shortage of them. We will most likely be the only country in the world with a pharmacy of this size.”
President López Obrador took the opportunity to criticize opposition politicians, whom he questioned for criticizing the megapharmacy. “If it were the largest drug warehouse in the world, then yes there would be protests, but it’s about the medicines, what’s wrong with them? How far does their senselessness go?” he said.

The President assured that the main objective of the megapharmacy is to “complement” the supply of medicines.
“The medicines will be in the centers and hospitals, but if the patient arrives and there is no medicine, you can call this distribution center and there are already teams receiving the calls, there are personnel from the IMSS, ISSSTE and the IMSS-Wellness “he explained.
At the time, General Jens Pedro Lohmann Iturburu, director of Birmex, said that the megapharmacy is a “strategic facility” that reflects “the indelible commitment of the Mexican State to the health of Mexicans.” He added that this “new chapter” also represents the absolute transformation of the health system in Mexico.

This is how you can request a drug from the megapharmacy.
The beneficiary must call 5595000911, the Megapharmacy of Wellbeing Service Center. You must have CURP, prescription folio number on hand and provide contact information.
IMSS, ISSSTE and IMSS-Bienestar have three hours to process the request and verify if they have the medication or, if applicable, direct the order to the megapharmacy.
If the institution does not have it, Birmex intervenes to analyze if it is in an area close to the institution.
Routes are defined and a delivery plan is made. The medication is then dispensed and it is verified that it has been received.
