New Delhi State Government Files Review Petition Against Supreme Court Verdict on Kannur VC Re-appointment

New Delhi ∙ The state government has filed a review petition against the Supreme Court verdict canceling the re-appointment of the Kannur VC. There is a demand that the Supreme Court’s judgment, which quashed the High Court’s judgment upholding the re-appointment, should be reconsidered. The government pointed out in the petition that Dr. Gopinath Ravindran was reappointed without compromising the appointment criteria.

Dr. Gopinath Ravindran had earlier stated that he will not file an appeal. This was the stand taken by the government initially, but finally decided to proceed with the review petition.

The order for re-appointment was issued by the chancellor, but the Supreme Court dismissed the VC by observing that there was unnecessary interference by the government. The court also pointed out that the interference is subverting the appointment system.

The chancellor has completely surrendered his legal authority. This invalidates the appointment process. The Supreme Court also clarified that the coup has taken place in the decision-making process regarding the appointment.
