Today, the 30th, rain clouds associated with the front are hanging over Okinawa and Amami. Tonight, the rain area will spread and it will rain in places across the Tokai region. Tomorrow, the 31st (New Year’s Eve), rain and thunderstorms are likely to occur in the Kanto, Hokuriku, and Tohoku regions. As of 3:30 p.m., rain clouds are covering Okinawa and Amami, mainly over the sea, but some are developing.
A low pressure system will form on the front, and after this it will rain widely in Okinawa and Kyushu, and there will be heavy rain accompanied by thunder in some places. Tonight, the rain will spread eastward, and it is likely to rain in places in the Chugoku region, Shikoku, Kinki, and Tokai.
On New Year’s Eve, the rain, snow and wind will become stronger.

Rain and thunderstorms are expected in Okinawa and Kyushu until dawn, and in Sanyo, Shikoku, central and southern Kinki, Tokai, and Kanto until around noon. Heavy rain is likely to occur in places such as the Kii Peninsula. The weather will gradually improve in the afternoon.
It is likely to rain intermittently in the San’in region, northern Kinki region, and Hokuriku region through the night. Be careful of lightning, tornadoes, strong wind gusts, and hail. Tohoku will experience rain and thunderstorms closer to the Sea of Japan. At night, it looks like it will turn to snow mainly along the mountains. It will snow in Hokkaido, and there will be blizzards in some places.
