Russian Military Losses in Ukraine War: Updated List Shows Surge in Casualties

Media representatives updated their own list of confirmed verified losses of Russian troops at the front in Ukraine. According to their estimates, since the last report of December 15 and as of today, 1,175 persons have been added to it, including five officers – 1 colonel and 4 lieutenant colonels.

The material indicates that we are talking about those whose names Mediazona and BBC journalists managed to establish from open sources, and not the real number of losses, which is obviously much higher.

According to Russian investigators, 2023 has become “more bloody” for the Russian army than the last, when they counted the names of at least 15.5 thousand dead occupiers.

“By the end of 2023, there are more than 40.5 thousand names on our list, and we expect that the data for 2023 will also increase by at least a third – especially taking into account the latest bloody assaults,” says Mediazona.

The journalists added that they could “say with confidence” that this year the Russian Armed Forces suffered even greater losses than in the first year of the large-scale war against Ukraine.

Russia’s losses in the war with Ukraine

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of the morning of December 29, over the past 24 hours our defenders have liquidated almost 850 more occupiers. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia has lost 357,520 military personnel.

Let us also recall that at the end of September the BBC wrote that in the first weeks of the Ukrainian counter-offensive, losses among the Russian military increased significantly. In particular, the Russian Federation then lost at least 234 officers, including 2 generals and 11 colonels.
