Donata and Laralyne met in high school. Since then, they haven’t let go. Accompanied by their madness, she embarks on the challenge of the 4L Trophy with their pink 4L. Between challenge and solidarity, excitement and apprehension, the two Jurassians will hit the road on February 15.
2024 will be synonymous with adventure for Donata Huvig and Lauralyne Dessery. One is 24 years old and is an environmental technician at Inovyn. The other is 23 years old and is doing a Marketing apprenticeship in Besançon. Together, these two high school friends have one thing in common: their madness. Together, they took on the challenge of participating in the famous 4L Trophy, the biggest sporting and solidarity event in Europe dedicated to 18-28 year olds. Departing from Biarritz, the crews will reach Morocco via Spain.
“We embarked on the adventure without thinking too muchsays Donata, laughing. We told ourselves that if we didn’t do it now, we would never do it.“An adventure that she has been eyeing for a year.”We watched while being interested, and in February, we said to ourselves, we’ll do it“, explains the Tavelloise. If they threw themselves into the deep end, without thinking about all that this entails, today, reality has caught up with them.
Before finding yourself on the sand of the Sahara, you must pass the administrative mountain which stood before the two adventurers. “We created an association to show our seriousness to our sponsors. All this takes a lot of time. And then learning mechanics too!“, she says, laughing. If the two young women are not mechanics, they can count on their friends to become one.
It takes time, and we really thank our friends for the time they give us. Now, we know that you need two fans to go into the desert, but we still put labels on certain parts. We know how to change a wheel, that’s not bad! And then we rely a lot on the mutual help of others in times of trouble.
The closer the departure date approaches, the more they realize what they are going to do. A mixture of apprehension and excitement. “We say to ourselves “why are we doing this, we’re crazy“. We’re going to find ourselves two in the 4L, we’re going to have to take it upon ourselves“, Donata projects, still in a good mood. And something makes us think that the sun will shine in the desert of Morocco, but also in this 4L Franc-Comtoise.
Speaking of the car, the challenge started with finding the right vehicle. It’s not easy to find a 4L among the thousands of ads. “It wasn’t easy. We needed one that didn’t have too many mechanical problems and that was within our budget. But our friends accompanied us“They found their little wonder in Angoulême, enough to get used to driving a long distance and get their bearings.”The first step back was difficult” Donata lines. “But then it’s okay.” A 1987 model that already has a 4L Trophy in the engine. Blue, orange and yellow, the car has been given a makeover with a new light pink color.
If the challenge side motivates the two adventurers, the solidarity supported by the project is their other driving force. “The adventure allows us to provide access to education to children in the desert who are not as lucky as us to have schools in good condition and adequate equipment. We will really realize it, insists Donata, very touched by the cause. It’s an adventure that we will never forget, but behind it, there is a cause. We’re lucky, I studied, I have a great job, and not everyone has this chance to learn and get by like us.”
With their chests and hearts full, the two young women will hit the road towards Biarritz on February 15. Until then, a little more time to find the last missing sponsors. “Right now, we wake up 4L, we eat 4L, we live 4L.”
