Two primary school principals were killed on the night of Wednesday to Thursday, December 28 in the territory of Masisi (North Kivu), by unidentified armed men. Corroborating sources in the area indicate that these victims were returning from Goma with their teachers’ salaries.
Those killed were the director of EP Mashaki, Hategekimana Singiranumwe, and the director of EP Mwanga, Sebahizi Matege, of Masisi 4 sub-division, Katoyi sector.
According to consistent sources in the area, these victims were cowardly shot and killed by unidentified armed men, around 9 p.m. local time.
The victims returned from Goma with a colossal sum of money from their teachers’ salaries. Their bodies were discovered in the morning of Thursday in the Virunga district, far from the Virunga health post, in the city of Sake.
However, it is impossible to specify, for the moment, at what level or under what conditions this double murder took place.
The population of Sake, who are launching an SOS, are asking the competent authorities to open serious investigations in order to find the perpetrators of this act so that they can be brought before the competent courts.
The two bodies were sent to the morgue of the Goma General Reference Hospital and investigations are underway, said district chief Virunga.
The territory of Masisi is a landlocked area due to the deterioration of communications routes and the activism of armed groups, including the M23 rebellion.
