In order for a cherished wish, or preferably several, to come true for the New Year, many rites and rituals have been invented. Thus, the Spaniards believe that if you eat 12 grapes during the chiming clock – one for each wish – everything will certainly come true. But in China, eight juicy oranges are thrown over the threshold. And, of course, the good old classics – a letter to Santa Claus or a burnt note in a champagne flute.
In many ways, the fulfillment of a dream depends on how much we believe in it, psychologists say. Therefore, in order not to get distracted by empty fantasies, you need to focus on something specific and, when making a wish, imagine that it has already come true. For example, I’m sailing on a yacht in the Mediterranean Sea or conquered Elbrus.
Secrecy is another common belief. It is believed that a wish cannot be told to anyone until it has come true. And you can’t wish bad things on another person, otherwise the negativity will definitely return.
