Digital Foundry specialists Alex Battaglia and John Linneman released a large video in which they selected the six worst PC versions of games for 2023. The analysis compared the release versions, as well as the versions as of September after a bunch of patches.
Some titles were fixed quite quickly, others still suffer from problems and, it seems, the developers are not going to fix them.
The worst PC ports of 2023 according to Digital Foundry:
Wild Hearts
Star Wars: Jedi Survivor
Dead Space Remake
-
The prophesied
-
Redfall
-
The Last of us Part I
Experts from the technical department of Eurogamer brought the first three into a separate top, since these games still work poorly on PC. Basically, the problems lie in stutters, as well as unstable frametime.
For example, the same Star Wars Jedi: Survivor studio Respawn Entertainment actively patched after release, significantly improved performance (even on consoles), but did not get rid of freezes. Battaglia says they occur in any configuration.
Wild Hearts was abandoned because the game failed both financially and among players.
What happened to Dead Space is not entirely clear, since EA Motive’s horror game, as Battaglia notes, shows very good GPU performance.
Stutters in Dead Space Remake are especially noticeable during transitions between locations and rooms, as well as when objects appear. Battaglia believes that at this point the engine is loading and unloading chunks of assets.
Previously, the DSOG portal named the PC games with the worst optimization in 2023, noting Wild Hearts, Cities Skylines 2 and Immortals of Aveum.
