Prefect of Reunion Island Prohibits Sale of Fuel in Jerrycans for New Year’s Eve Security

Jérôme Filippini, prefect of Reunion Island, temporarily prohibits the sale of fuel in jerrycans or other containers from Saturday December 30, 2023 at 12:00 a.m. to Monday January 1, 2024 at 6:00 a.m. with the aim of contributing, with the internal security forces, to the security of demonstrations on Reunion Island on the occasion of New Year’s Eve, the prefecture services communicated this afternoon.

And prefectural decree prohibiting the retail sale, carrying and transport of fuel, combustible or corrosive product, in any transportable container, such as jerrican or drum was taken in order to prevent the risk of disturbances has lpublic order.

Service station managers must ensure compliance with this ban and the display of this decree in full view of their customers.

These prohibitions do not apply to professionals justifying their activity, nor to the sale of gas to individuals.

Violations of this order will be noted and punished in accordance with the laws and regulations in force.
