The New York Police Department (NYPD), as well as state and federal agencies, have a tough job on December 31: protecting New Yorkers at the New Year’s celebration in Times Square.
For the iconic celebration, the authorities are preparing a security device with the support of technology and, above all, with the reinforcement of police officers at each strategic point.
Although the NYPD has had an alert activated since October 7, due to the demonstrations over the Israel-Hamas conflict, the police understand that the celebration in Times Square could be a peak, since it is one of the largest events.
In addition, a call to action for December 31 was published through social networks by protest groups, so the NYPD remains on alert and prepares a stronger security device than in previous years.
These are the security measures announced by the New York Police
- Prohibited items: backpacks, large bags, umbrellas, chairs, large coolers and alcohol.
- “A lot of technology,” said Mayor Eric Adams in an appearance. However, he did not reveal what the security strategies were.
- Barricades deployed around the event area, in addition to concrete blocks.
- Several streets will be closed to traffic. Likewise, there will be points of better visibility, enabled for pedestrians.
- Increase in police forces.
