Among young people between the ages of 18 and 24, emotional problems ranked first. It was about, among other things, the waiting lists for mental health care, loneliness, stress and sometimes even thoughts of suicide.
Lots of conversations about topics on social media
What is most striking in the annual overview of the Kindertelefoon is that many young children contacted us in 2023 about topics they encountered online or on social media. For example, online bullying, scams and nude photos were discussed, but also about topics from the news.
For example, according to the Kindertelefoon, calls or chats were often made about the war in Gaza, in response to images that children saw or if they were concerned about classmates or family from the area.
In the week of the elections, children and young adults mainly wanted to talk about politics. Then it was about divisions in their environment or concerns about the outcome.
