The bull standing alone on a small piece of land surrounded by water from the Meuse may yet be piloted to the mainland. That reports 1Limburg. Yesterday the fire brigade deemed it too dangerous to help the animal, but Free Nature is now going its own way say the largest private natural grazer in the Netherlands, give it a try.

The Galloway bull has been standing for a few days in the middle of a nature reserve on the border of the Netherlands and Belgium, not far from Itteren. In Belgium, the situation caused a commotion because the animal was said to be in danger and could drown. It is now clear that the grazer can swim well and is not in need of food.

To lure

A Free Nature employee tried yesterday to lure the bull to shore with hay, but in vain. The animal briefly left the island, but then returned. Today the organization is going with an inflatable boat that can sail well through shallow water, try to get the animal back to the mainland.

Here’s a look at how the bull stood quite deep in the water yesterday:

Lonely bull

“Or at least lead to a higher place,” says a spokesperson. The water level has dropped, so it should be easier than yesterday. “Around the turn of the year the Meuse rises again, so we want to get it out of there before then.”

Secluded

The bull isolated itself from its herd months ago. “It is an older bull and you often see that they seek out quieter corners, instead of grazing in the hustle and bustle of the herd,” a spokesperson told the regional broadcaster.
