KH Marzuki Mustamar Removed from Position as East Java PWNU Chair Amid 2024 Presidential Election Suspicions

Jakarta

KH Marzuki Mustamar was removed from his position as Chair of the East Java PWNU because he was suspected of siding with one of the candidate pairs in the 2024 presidential election. However, Marzuki emphasized that he was neutral in accordance with instructions from PBNU.

“We also don’t know, all this time I have followed PBNU’s orders to be neutral. Neutral means not going anywhere, not closing yourself off from anyone. But neutral means embracing everyone,” said Marzuki as reported detectionThursday (28/12/2023).

Marzuki said his neutral attitude was demonstrated by attending events for supporters of candidate pairs number 1, 2 and 3. He said he did not give any different treatment to the three presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs.

“That’s why together with the chairman of Golkar in Tuban we were also present, and sometimes we recited the Koran at the PDIP, sometimes we recited the Koran at the PPP. When Mrs. Munjidah Wahab (Chair of the East Java PPP) came here and asked for help completing the PPP management, we also wanted it. Her name was also said by everyone, ” he said.

According to Marzuki, this neutral attitude aims to ensure that PWNU’s preaching doors are not limited to one particular group. He regretted that there was information accusing him of siding with one of the candidates in the 2024 election.

“Sometimes anyone responds to me without tabayun (clarification). That’s usually when people make TikToks of me when they’re with someone. Then it’s concluded that I support it. When I’m with other people it’s not uploaded and made viral,” he said.
