At least two people have been injured after a cargo ship struck a mine in the Black Sea. The Ukrainian armed forces report this. One of the injured had to go to hospital, the other received medical attention on board.
The ship is said to have sailed under the Panamanian flag and was on its way to a port on the Danube when the accident happened.
According to the Ukrainians, the collision caused a fire and caused the vessel to drift off course. Tugboats were said to have been deployed. The Ukrainian Armed Forces did not report when the incident took place.
Russia has stepped up attacks on Ukrainian port infrastructure after the expiry of the so-called grain deal. That deal allowed safe freight transport across the Black Sea. Russia decided not to renew the deal in July.
Ukraine responded with an alternative shipping route. The Eastern European country is an important grain producer. For example, about a tenth of all wheat comes from Ukraine.
