Add to that 30 goals for Tottenham the season before and a rarely seen goal average in the English national team. Harry Kane’s nose for goal makes him one of the world’s absolute best players.
4. Jude Bellingham, England and Real Madrid
Wow, what a great start Jude Bellingham has had since the move to Spain and Real Madrid. The young Englishman instantly became a key player for ‘Los Blancos’ and has scored more goals than anyone could have imagined from his advanced midfield position. Bellingham currently leads the scoring league in La Liga with 13 goals in 15 games. If the 20-year-old continues at this pace, a place higher up on this list will probably await in a year. However, a spring season in 2023 that was not as explosive means that Bellingham has to settle for fourth place.
3. Rodri, Spain and Manchester City
Somewhat out of the blue, Rodri has dominated Manchester City’s midfield since arriving at the club in 2019. Rarely a player who grabs the big headlines but what an incredible impact the Spaniard had as City salvaged their historic treble. As the icing on the cake, Rodri was also the one who scored the goal that gave the club its first ever Champions League title. Safe to pass, smart, strong and has a positional game like no other. Rodri takes home the bronze medal as the world’s third best player in 2023.
2. Kylian Mbappe, France and PSG
The Frenchman continues to dominate every game he plays, against whatever opposition he comes up against. Had Haaland not had his otherworldly season at Manchester City, first place would have been Mbappe’s. A league title in France, round of 16 in the Champions League and the fact that the 25-year-old practically single-handedly carries PSG on his shoulders at times makes Mbappe the world’s second best player.

What should one really say about the Norwegian’s first season at Manchester City? Haaland perfectly poured in goals and contributed to the greatest extent to City being able to salvage a historic treble. The striker scores in all kinds of ways and is a nightmare to face. With 71 goals in 75 games since arriving in England last summer, there is little else to say. Haaland is the world’s best player in 2023.
