The Kardjali priest Father Boyan Sarev, known as the Baptist of the Rhodopes, has died. The priest died this evening in the Kardzhali hospital. Boyan Saryev passed away at the age of 67 on St. Stephen’s Day, the day his nephew Nikolai Saryev died 20 years ago in Karbala, Afghanistan.

During the last more than 3 decades, Father Boyan served in the “Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary” church in the “Gledka” district of Kardzhali. In 1985, he graduated from the school of the Ministry of the Interior in “Simeonovo”. In 1990, he was ordained a deacon and then a priest in the Plovdiv diocese.
