Three years ago, Brooklinn Khoury (24) was attacked by a pit bull that bit off her entire upper lip and parts of her nose.
After three years of operations and doctor visits, the 24-year-old has redefined what beauty means to her.
Brutally attacked by dog
She says this in an interview with Good Morning America (GMA).
Bite her lip
Khoury is a professional skateboarder and model, and runs the Instagram account @brookhoury where she has over half a million followers.
On 3 November 2020, Khoury was with his cousin in Arizona in the USA. She was well acquainted with the dog that attacked her, and the incident came as a surprise:
– I stood upright, while the dog sat down. I turned to my cousin, and when I turned back the dog jumped on me and bit my lip, she tells GMA.

The dog is said to have shaken her head like a chew toy back and forth.
When the dog finally escaped, Khoury is not supposed to have noticed that he had torn off her upper lip until she went to the bathroom and looked in the mirror right after the incident.
– I looked like a skeleton, says the 24-year-old.
Difficult at first
At the hospital, she learned that the lip could not be sewn back on. The doctors therefore sewed up the wound without the upper lip. Since then, she has documented her new life after the dog attack.

In the beginning, she says that it was difficult to deal with the new reality. She was afraid of what others would think of her appearance.
– We learn from friends, parents, social media and everyone around us what “beauty” is. But I struggle with the idea that there is only one simple definition of beauty. In reality, we are all beautiful in so many indescribable ways.

She tells Good Morning America that all the people around her have meant a lot in the time since the incident:
– Everyone around me was in my life for a reason – for me to realize that there is so much more to the definition of beauty than just what you see. From the inside out. Learning to love yourself, no matter what you look like. And truly realize that imperfections are what make you a person.

Today, Khoury uses his platform to tell about his personal journey. At the same time, she encourages others to see their own beauty.
– I have learned to love all my scars and everything else about myself that makes me me, she writes on Instagram.
