The Day Before: Modders Working on Offline Mode for Problematic Game

Several modders are currently working on an offline mod for the problematic The Day Before, which will add an offline mode.

Enough has been said and written about the problematic game. Just days after the game’s Early Access release earlier this month, development studio Fntastic has closed its doors.

“Today we are announcing the closure of Fntastic studio,” the team wrote. “Unfortunately, The Day Before was a financial failure and we lack the funds to continue. All income received goes to pay off debts to our partners. We poured all of our effort, resources, and man-hours into developing The Day Before, our first major game. We really wanted to release new patches to unlock the game’s full potential, but unfortunately we don’t have the funding to continue the work.”

The servers were expected to remain up and running for now, but last week it was announced that the game’s servers would be shut down in January next year. In addition, Valve announced that it will be providing “proactive” refunds to those who purchased the game on Steam.

Interestingly, X users “Luci0” and “fskartd” are currently working on a hack that will redirect the game server connection to a local connection. In theory, this will allow owners of the game to play it offline. At the time of writing this news, the release date for this crack is unknown and more information will be provided as soon as it becomes available.

Announced back in 2021 for PC and consoles, The Day Before was supposed to release last year. A month before the game’s planned release in 2022, the development team announced a delay due to the expected transition from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5.
