CARTAGENA. He Cartagena City Councilthrough the Department of Education will open three study rooms in the municipality of Cartagena during the year 2024, thus fulfilling the Government’s commitment to double the current network by the end of the legislature. This has been announced by the Councilor for Education, Ignacio Jáudenes, when detailing his department’s budgets, which amount to 18,667,969 euros, 230,000 euros more than last year’s budget.
“The objective of the municipal government is add three more study classrooms to the municipal network during the next year. We currently have 8 distributed throughout Cartagena, and In 2027 we will have 16 classrooms of study throughout the municipality,” said Jáudenes, who has announced that in the coming years “we will almost triple the capacity and spaces so that our students can study with all the comforts.”
The mayor of Education has valued the investment of 1.4 million euros that will begin execution during 2024 to build a new children’s school next to Parque De la Rosa, after getting European funding. The City Council will contribute more than 250 thousand euros for its construction, as well as all the equipment and resources, both material and personal, that are required for its start-up and subsequent operation. This nursery school will be one of the largest in Cartagena, with 120 studentsand will mean expanding the number of public places available by 10%.

Jáudenes has also detailed the considerable increase in the budget allocated to truancy and school boards. The game grows 150% more compared to 2023. “This clear commitment will allow us to allocate more than double the resources to inform, raise awareness and sensitize parents of the obligation and need for their children to go to school if they are of school age and schedule.” The councilor has pointed out that “this matter becomes more worrying when we know that it affects precisely the most vulnerable areas of our municipality”, therefore, he continued, “to combat this scourge, we must allocate more efforts and means, and this is what we wanted to reflect.”

The budgets also contemplate an increase in the item of Theater at school, that will have 20.000 euros; los Educational programs are increased from 15,000 to 26.500 euros, as well as what is intended for the holiday dining rooms which amount to the amount of 70.000 euroswhose beneficiaries will be the most vulnerable families in our municipality, in order to guarantee adequate nutrition during the school vacation period.
The councilor concluded by assuring that, in his opinion, “they are very good budgets, since they provide some solid foundation for the next few years and are aimed at the entire educational community.
