President of the National Olympic Committee Vadim Gutzeit says that as a result of a full-scale war with the Russian Federation, more than 400 Ukrainian athletes have already died.

Direct speech: “Now we hear a lot from the other side (of the Russian Federation) that they don’t want to participate (in the Olympics) without their flag, that they won’t participate, that it’s not fair to them. But it’s fair to us when it goes full-scale war? But honestly, when more than 400 of our athletes have already died, we have lost about 500 sports facilities, partially or completely? We are losing people… Is this fair to us?”
Details: According to Gutzeit, previously about 300-350 athletes represented Russia at the Olympic Games. If they are allowed to participate in the Olympics now under a neutral flag, there will be much fewer of them – 50-80 people.
There is no decision yet whether Ukrainian athletes will take part in the Olympic Games in Paris. In turn, the head of the NOC considers it important that Ukrainian athletes be represented at the Olympics.
