Joris Nieuwenhuis finished in the most thankless place on Tuesday during the World Cup in Gavere. He finished fourth after a fantastic battle with Tom Pidcock, although that was partly due to a puncture at the end of the final lap. And while he suffered a fracture in his left index finger during the cross, he explains CyclingFlits.
“In the first lap I rode with my hand on a pole,” Nieuwenhuis remembers. “I immediately felt that something was wrong, so I said that in the post,” he refers to the stories of a broken finger in the live broadcast. “Other than that, I didn’t have much trouble afterwards. On Tuesday evening I had another photo taken and fortunately my finger turned out not to be broken. There was a crack in it.”
And that is ‘good’ news, because the man in form of Baloise Trek Lions says he can cycle with it. “I will start in the Superprestige of Heusden-Zolder on Wednesday and will then also ride in the Superprestige round in Diegem, the World Cup in Hulst and the X2O Trophy competition in Baal. My finger was of course a little more sensitive on Wednesday morning, so I will tape it during the matches.”
