A lonely bull that is completely surrounded by the Meuse water will have to fend for itself in the coming days. It is too dangerous for the fire brigade to help the animal.
The Galloway bull is located in the middle of a nature reserve on the border of the Netherlands and Belgium, not far from Itteren, reports 1Limburg.
There was a commotion on the Belgian side of the border yesterday because the animal was said to be at risk of drowning. “Normally, that cow would have been saved a long time ago,” a resident of the village of Lanaken told the Flemish broadcaster TVL. “If the water of the Maas rises even higher, the cow will certainly perish.”
Not in danger
But according to a spokesperson for the South Limburg Safety Region, the animal is not in danger at all. Bulls can swim well and do not lack food. “It is also not necessary that people may want to set up a campaign themselves,” the spokesperson warns.
Lonely bull
The bull is from Free Nature, according to our own say the largest private natural grazer in the Netherlands. An employee of the organization says that he tried to lure the animal to shore with some hay. “But the bull returned to the (peninsula) island on its own initiative,” he says.
Free Nature also emphasizes that the large grazer has not been in danger for a second. The animal separated itself from its herd months ago, but it is not known why.
