In Así el Weso, Dr. Alejandro Macías recommended that citizens apply an updated vaccine against COVID-19 if the budget allows it, but that, if it is not within the economic possibilities, he recommends that they get vaccinated with Abdala or Sputnik V, dose that the health sector is applying.

“The evidence we have is that it can work better, these vaccines have fewer genetic flaws in relation to the variants that are currently circulating than the vaccines that were made with information about the virus from China, such as Abdala and Sputnik, and it does not want That is to say, it loses all of its effectiveness. If you do not have access to a modernized vaccine, get the vaccine that is available to you.”

In an interview with Karla Santillán, the infectious disease specialist assured that the new variant of COVID-19 has not yet entered the country with force, and that it is certain that it will be in January or February, when the increase in cases and hospitalizations will begin to be reflected, therefore He asked the population to get vaccinated against the virus.

“The vaccines need 15 days to start working well and Covid-19 still does not enter Mexico with force, it will surely enter until January or February, because the JN1 variant is just entering the United States. This subvariant of pyrola has been seen in Europe, the United States, and Asia (…) when it enters there is an increase in cases and hospitalizations, but it is going to enter, COVID-19 is not over.”

Macías pointed out that people can be re-vaccinated with an updated dose against COVID-19, if around two months have passed after the application, and he clarified that for children, the only vaccines authorized for application are Pfizer and Moderna.

“In Mexico for children, the vaccines that are authorized by the World Health Organization are precisely the messenger RN vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna and they will be given to those over 5 years of age.”
