The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has released information about the search for fencers Sergei Bida and his wife Violetta, who moved to the United States in the summer.
Fencers from the Olympic team who moved to California, Sergei Bida and his wife Violetta Bida, became accused in a criminal case and were wanted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. How reports “Mediazona”, the athletes were put on the wanted list no later than the fall of 2023. However, it is unclear under what articles they were charged.
Perhaps the fact is that the spouses were prominent figures in fencing: 30-year-old Sergei Bida was a member of Dynamo and was formally an employee of the Russian Guard, and his 29-year-old wife Violetta from CSKA was a soldier of the Ministry of Defense of the aggressor country. Both athletes represented the Russian Federation at various international competitions, from where they returned with medals.
After moving to the USA, they continued their sports career and now participate in local competitions.
In 2022, Violetta Bida wrote in her TG channel about the return of sports authorities to the practice of the USSR, when passports were taken away from athletes. This time, the married couple could be left without a trip abroad to warmer climes, where the Bids planned to spend their vacation.
“Our passports were taken away. We are just with tickets, but without passports“, the athlete wrote.
However, after some time they managed to return the documents. Probably, after that trip they did not return them and, thanks to this, moved to the United States in the summer of 2023.
Of course, their action caused criticism from the Russian authorities, pro-government sports publications and bloggers, who demanded to express their anti-war position in other ways. Because of the so-called “escape”, the couple’s senior coach, Alexander Glazunov, was fired.
People in the Russian Federation have already remembered that Sergei Bida is a representative of a famous sports dynasty. His grandmother Valentina Rastvorova, a native of Odessa, became the champion of the 1960 Olympic Games. His mother, grandfather and uncle were also eminent athletes from the times of the USSR.
Earlier it was reported that the presenter of the Ukrainian Channel 24, Alexey Pechiy, did not return to Ukraine after a business trip to the EU summit. His excuses Ukrainians were outraged by their actions.
And the former “regional” Efremov after the start of the war ran away to Moscow and has not returned to Ukraine since then. Journalists managed to reach the politician.
