KPK Imposes Heavy Ethical Sanctions on Firli Bahuri, Calls for Resignation

Jakarta

The KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas) imposed heavy ethical sanctions on the inactive KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri. The KPK Council said there were a number of burdensome things for Firli.

The Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) explained these burdensome matters in the ethics decision hearing at the KPK Council Office, Wednesday (27/12/2023). The following are aggravating ethical sanctions Firli:

– The examinee did not admit his actions.
– The examinee is not present at the code of ethics and code of conduct trial without a valid reason even though he has been legally and properly summoned and there is an impression of trying to slow down the progress of the trial.
– The examiner as Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Committee and also a member should be an example and role model in implementing the code of ethics and code of conduct at the Corruption Eradication Commission, but instead the examinee did the opposite.
– The examinee has already been subject to ethical sanctions.

The KPK Council stated that Firli had committed an ethical violation because he had direct or indirect contact with Syahrul Yasin Limpo, whose case was being handled by the KPK. Dewas said that Firli did not inform other KPK leaders of his meeting and communication with SYL, which allegedly caused a conflict of interest and did not show exemplary actions and behavior.

Firli was declared to have violated Article 4 paragraph 2 letter a, Article 4 paragraph 1 letter j, and Article 8 letter e of Dewas Regulation Number 3 of 2021. Dewas stated that Firli was given heavy ethical sanctions.

“In the form of being asked to submit his resignation as KPK leader,” said the KPK Council.
