Liverpool defeated Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor on Tuesday evening and went top of the Premier League. But it could have been bigger victory numbers than that.
In the first half, Liverpool had a goal disallowed because Darwin Núñez was deemed to have taken a ball that Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford was deemed to have, and in the second half, Mohamed Salah was adjudged to be offside, obscuring Trafford’s view when Harvey Elliott scored for Liverpool. That too was ruled out after the main referee for the day, Paul Tierney, VAR reviewed the situation.
One who was not happy with the referee’s performance for the day was Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp. He was furious with Tierney and how the umpires choose to interpret the rules that exist.
– Only people who have never played football can get it (the situation at Salah’s goal, ed. amn.) offside. It is completely unimaginable that you see it, says Klopp to Amazon Prime according to bold.dk and continues:
– Why do judges create their own interpretations of the existing rules? We all watch football and need the referees, but we need them to make the correct interpretations of the rules that exist. You just think: “Wow”.
Arsenal can regain first place from Liverpool if “The Gunners” win Thursday’s London derby against West Ham.
