Ben Shelton, a rising star on the ATP Tour, sees Roger Federer as a great role model – both in terms of his playing style and his fashion sense. Federer, known for his elegance on the tennis court, is also a style icon off the court.
The 20-time Grand Slam winner, who also acts as a global brand ambassador for UNIQLO, always puts great emphasis on his outfit. Whether on the red carpet or the red clay, Federer’s sense of stylish clothing and accessories like tailored blazers and Rolex watches is unmistakable.
Shelton particularly admires Federer’s ability to dress stylishly for events ranging from the Met Gala to Wimbledon. “I get style inspiration from different people, other athletes and Instagram.
Roger is one of those guys who can do anything. He can do it on the court, he can do it off the court, he can do it at the Met Gala, he can do it at Wimbledon,” Shelton said in a conversation with ON.
Shelton’s own path and ambitions
Shelton, the young American, is proud to wear the latest ON tennis clothing, which he used towards the end of the campaign.
“There is a great tradition and rich history in tennis. A lot of brands that other players wear don’t do much other than traditional clothing, so my buddies on tour are definitely jealous of the gradient kit I wore.
They all want to touch it,” he added.
Shelton emphasizes staying open to new experiences and maintaining a growth mindset. “I’m competitive and I want to win, but I have to remember that there are some things where I’m still far from where I want to be.
Yes, hopefully I have a long career ahead of me and time to refine my style.”
When it comes to training rituals, Shelton is flexible but emphasizes the importance of hard work. “I’m not a superstitious ritual type,” Shelton says.
“My warm-up exercises vary. I eat different things. I like to listen to aggressive hip-hop to pump myself up before hitting the court, but in the end it all comes down to hard work. Hard work is something I don’t just say ‘whatever’.
When it’s time to really work, I like to be the first to arrive at the facility or the last to leave.”
Shelton’s attitude and ambition, coupled with his sense of style, inspired by tennis legends like Federer, show a promising path for his future career in professional tennis.
