The 12VHPWR connector had many melting and burning issues that affected NVIDIA’s top-end GeForce RTX 4090 cards. PCI-SIG and power supply manufacturers quickly worked to resolve these issues and implemented the new ATX 3.1/CEM 5.1 specifications, resulting in the introduction of the cable 12V-2×6. This connector and associated cables will be included with the latest power supplies, including future graphics cards.
Seasonic has introduced brand new 12V-2×6 connection cables. These cables are L-shaped, positioned at a 90-degree angle. New cables will be supplied with the latest series of power supplies ATX 3.1and users who have Seasonic ATX 3.0 power supplies (FOCUS/Vertex/PRIME) will be able to get this cable.
But we need to confirm that there is the aforementioned Seasonic power supply and a video card with a 12VHPWR connector interface. These connectors will be shipped to the first users on January 10th. The launch of the new 12V-2×6 connection cables fits perfectly with the future family NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 SUPERwhich will take full advantage of the new power interface.
Recently, Seasonic advised its customers to use a hair dryer to bend existing 12VHPWR/12V-2×6 jumper cables before installing the graphics card into the PC. Thanks to the angled connector, you don’t have to worry about using a hair dryer to bend the cable, and you can simply plug the connector into the card and use it with peace of mind.
We can expect other power supply and graphics card manufacturers to follow suit and also release a similar angled connector by 2024.
