[New Tang Dynasty News, Beijing time, December 26, 2023]After the “keeping a mistress” scandal broke out, Zheng Qiang, the former president of Taiyuan University of Technology, known as the “president” of Internet celebrities, was suddenly dismissed from his post recently, triggering heated discussions.
On the afternoon of December 22, Taiyuan University of Technology announced that Zheng Qiang would no longer serve as secretary of the party committee of the university due to age. Zheng Qiang’s replacement was Shen Xingquan. He stated at the meeting that he must “restrict and standardize his words and deeds.” This statement was said to have a certain meaning.
Zheng Qiang’s “keeping a mistress” scandal broke out two months ago. On the evening of October 10, a netizen nicknamed “Huaqu” posted a post on a social platform, reporting that Zheng Qiang cheated on his wife while he was the president of Guizhou University in 2015.
The report letter stated that Zheng Qiang called himself “Bengben” in private messages, kept his girlfriend in a villa in Guangxi, often posted pornographic videos, and promised to buy her a house in Beijing. The informant also released some chat records between Zheng Qiang and his girlfriend.
The whistleblower letter sparked heated discussion. On October 11, the whistleblower told China News Weekly that Zheng Qiang was discovered by Zheng Qiang when he called his girlfriend in the early morning of one morning in July 2015. The two parties broke up a few months later. In March this year, he met Zheng Qiang once and reported it to the relevant school authorities and disciplinary inspection departments, but so far there has been no result.
On October 12, Zheng Qiang issued a statement denying keeping a mistress, claiming that the whistleblower Lu “made up false information” and “blackmailed” him, and he reported the case.
However, Zheng Qiang’s remarks were not accepted by netizens. Mainland science writer Xiang Dongliang said on social platforms on December 1 that Zheng Qiang was “insulting” the public’s IQ.
Now, Zheng Qiang has been suddenly dismissed from his post, and the outside world speculates that this may be related to the “keeping a mistress” scandal.
According to official reports, Zheng Qiang retired because of his age. Public information shows that Zheng Qiang was born in September 1960 and is now 63 years old. He has indeed reached retirement age.
However, Zheng Qiang served as Secretary of the Party Committee of Taiyuan University of Technology in April 2020. Usually a term is five years, but now Zheng Qiang’s term is less than three years.
In 2022, when Zheng Qiang was interviewed by CCTV, he once threatened: The organization is very clear and will work for another three years!
If I work for another three years as Zheng Qiang said, it will be 2025. However, since the scandal of his keeping a mistress was exposed, Zheng Qiang was dismissed. It is generally believed that this is not like a normal retirement.
In addition, relevant information shows that there are currently at least four university presidents older than Zheng Qiang, including President Bao Xinhe of the University of Science and Technology of China (born in 1959), President of Yunnan University Fang Jingyun (born in 1959), and President of Fujian University Fu Xian Zhi (born in 1957), and Wang Shuguo (born in 1958), President of Xi’an Jiaotong University.
It can be seen that the so-called “retirement on time” by Chinese university leaders is not a hard and fast rule.
Zheng Qiang often makes some anti-American and anti-Western remarks to instill so-called “patriotic” education in students. Related videos are widely circulated on social media, and he is known as the “angry young professor” and “Internet celebrity principal”.
