Centurion: India’s batting collapse on the first day in the Boxing Day Test against South Africa. India were 208 for eight when the match was stopped early due to rain. The Indian score crossed 200 thanks to the excellent batting of KL Rahul who scored 70 runs without getting out. Kagiso Rabada took 5 wickets for 44 runs and broke the Indian batting line. Virat Kohli scored 38 runs and Shreyas Iyer scored 31 runs for India.
Earlier, the game started late due to dampness on the pitch. South African captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and sent India into bat. Ravindra Jadeja is not in the squad due to injury. R Ashwin is the spinner of the team.
India first lost the wicket of skipper Rohit Sharma who scored five runs. Rohit Sharma was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada. Burger dismissed Yaswaswee Jaiswal who scored 17 runs and Shubman Gill who scored two runs. With this, India’s score stood at 24 for three. Then the Kohli-Iyer combination at the crease pulled India out of the slump. But Kagiso Rabada again gave the hosts a break after hitting Shreyas Iyer’s stump. He added 68 runs for the third wicket. Rabada also dismissed Kohli soon after. With this, the Indians were 107 for five.
