The MAR Provincial Museum of Contemporary Art celebrates its 10 years with an exciting summer programming that promises to surprise visitors. This cycle, promoted by the Cultural Institute of the Province of Buenos Aires, marks a decade of contributions to the artistic scene, consolidating itself as an axis of contemporary art in Argentina.

A story of cultural transformation

Inaugurated on December 27, 2013the MAR stands as one of the most modern and extensive museums in the country. Designed specifically for its function, with more than 7,000 m², it quickly became a cultural beacon in the northern area of ​​Mar del Plata.. Since then, it has witnessed millions of visits to its exhibitions and has hosted a variety of cultural events, recitals, conferences and festivals, always keeping its doors open with free access.

The project, the result of a public project competition by the province’s College of Architects, was carried out by the Monoblock Studiogiving life to a versatile, bright and flexible space that has become a cultural reference not only for the city, but for the entire region.

The MAR, since its inauguration, housed the inaugural work of Marta Minujín, the “Alfajores Sea Lion”. A 10-meter-high structure covered by 50,000 Havanna alfajores wrappers, thus fusing two iconic traditions of Mar del Plata. In August 2014, on a festive day, the skin of this imposing work took place, with the participation of thousands of people, becoming a new cultural icon of the city.

A decade of success and transformation

After a decade, the MAR has consolidated its position as a reference for contemporary art in South America, marking the kilometer zero of Bienalsur for the world. It has welcomed students and communities through educational programs, offering exhibitions that highlight Buenos Aires artists, providing visibility and support for local artistic production.

Summer 2024

From the Café Cultura at the MAR to artistic interventions, talks, workshops and cycles dedicated to childhood, the museum offers a diverse range of activities to enjoy throughout the summer season. In addition, spaces such as The Island and the Laboratory Space provide learning and recreational opportunities for all visitors.

To commemorate this anniversary, the MAR presents a stellar summer program, full of events for all tastes and ages. From avant-garde presentations to interactive workshops, symphonic chapters, electronic festivals and much more, all with free access.

Two emblematic exhibitions will mark this summer at MAR: “EXTRA/ordinario” by Bienalsur Km 0, which challenges the everyday canon through works by national and international artists, and “Visión Quebrada” by Luis Felipe Noé, which invites you to explore the work and reflection of the artist.
