“I have my own style, I am original, I have no copy. It is only difficult for me to tell the typical musicians, I speak on behalf of everyone and say that this instrument called the accordion should be respected in the Dominican Republic because everywhere we go the accordion represents us as Dominicans. The accordion deserves to be respected,” said Fefita La Grande when interviewed by Moisés González of the digital newspaper and television program Despertar Nacional.

In that sense, Manuela Josefa Cabrera Taveras, known as Fefita La Grande, a prominent Dominican accordionist and the most recognized female performer of typical merengue, agreed with what was expressed by directors of the typical music schools that converge in the country, who condemn the resource. of vulgarity in typical merengue, which some exponents of the new generation and others with more time in the genre have been doing, while at the same time they will increase training on the identity of the rhythm among their students, who represent the generational change.

Fefita La Grande also referred to the recognition that the Senate of the Republic gave him for his transcendental artistic career and his contributions to Dominican culture.

“I am very happy with that recognition, for me it was a great honor and a great pleasure to share with the president of the Senate and the special guests, I am very happy and very happy and yes, they must do some things now, because you will understand, it is not be now, but one day I won’t be there, and people will want to do things when I’m gone.
